PH 106: Highlights 2012

PH 106 La Trinidad Student Center is a ministry of The Highland Metropolitan Assembly of God Church (THMAGC) in partnership with Compassion Philippines.  Compassion Philippines is an international organization whose mission is to release children from their spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enable them to become responsible and fulfilled Christian adults.

To fulfill its mission, various activities are planned and implemented every year to minister to the spiritual, social and physical needs of compassion children. The Center plans its programs and activities from July to June of every year.

For this fiscal year, July 2012 to June 2013, the following are the activities being implemented:

Weekly Learning Activities/Core Contact Time

These are done regularly at the Center every Saturdays to train the kids in the four aspects of their development. The Compassion partner provided a standard curriculum that is being implemented. One activity is the Youth Completion Program (YCP) for ages 12 – 21. For this year, it was conducted last August 27, 2012 with the theme: “Partnership –the Art of Leadership.”

Health Screening and Treatment

Medical & Dental check up of children were also done to assess their physical health conditions and to treat those who need medications. Expenses for their check up and ninety percent (90%) of their medicines and laboratory test fees are shouldered by the Compassion Sponsorship Program.

Formal School Subsidy

School fees of children at the Kindergarten, Elementary, High School, and College were given subsidy per year in the amount of P1, 600, P300, P900, and P6, 000, respectively.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Children’s Month was celebrated last October 2012 thru several activities such as “Operation Alis Kuto,” Oral Health Awareness and preparation of simple but healthy snacks. The other extra-curricular activities were the Career Orientation for children ages 12-14, and Career Planning for children ages 15-18.

Income-Generating/Vocational  Skills Training

Different age groups undergo different skills trainings such as cooking, computer literacy, handicraft, haircut, table skirting, cocktail mixing, and reflexology. The training started last August 2012 and will continue until April 2013.

Staff   & Teachers Training And Seminars

Training and seminars are attended by the staff and teachers to further  enhance their skills in handling the 254 children beneficiaries. These are:

  • The Child Development Progress Report (CDPR) sponsored by The North Luzon Cluster,
  • Seminar on Detecting and Managing Behavioral Problems in  the Regular Classroom Setting with the theme “Pasaway na Bata, Bakit Ka Nagwawala,”  and
  • Seminar on  Mental Health in the Family sponsored by the Psychiatry  Department of the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center.

Other Activities

Distribution of TOMS Shoes to the children beneficiaries ages 6-18 was done last October 2012. The TOM Shoes Company partnered with the Student Center and gave free shoes. The Tiong San La Trinidad also partnered with the Center for their Feeding Program.
